With the body containing more than 650 muscles, it is not surprising that once in awhile you will pull a muscle or feel a deep strain in a particular region.  Though painful and frustrating, it happens to everyone.  Muscle tissues enable you to walk, run, jump and participate in any of your favorite physical activities!  But a pulled muscle can sideline you for quite some time.  Chiropractic care along with proper stretching and rest can decrease the amount of time your pulled muscle takes time to deal.  For over 4 decades Blakely Chiropractic has been helping people with pulled muscles, getting them back to their activities in a timely manner!

What is a Pulled or Strained Muscle Injury?

A strained muscle is a pulled muscle, we are just very accustomed to the term "pulled muscle".  It occurs when you tear or overstretch one of your muscles and can happen on any part of your body.  Most commonly its a hamstring pull, but you can most certainly pull or strain muscles in your back and other regions.

When Dr. Blakely sees patients with muscle strains that are usually fairly mild or moderate muscle injuries, it takes a conservative appraoch to reduce further injury but increase the healing time to get you active again.  Muscle strains can vary so much in total pain, some are very mild and just require heat and ice while others can be a far greater issue.  But either way, both can be treated.

Muscle Injury Symptoms

Muscle injuries affect everyone differently. However, common telltale signs, include:

Sudden onset of pain
Soreness
Swelling
Stiffness
A “knotted-up” feeling
Weakness

In some cases you may notice bruising near the affected muscle.  Or if you begin to notice serious pains and limited motions when performing activities you enjoy.  This is a sign there may be a slighter deeper issue than just a quick few days rest.

How is a Muscle Injury Diagnosed?

To begin, Dr. Blakely will review your medical history and ask you about any past injuries or common symptoms you may have experienced.  This also includes the latest version of how the pulled or strained muscle occured.  He will also look closely at your posture to see if there are any spinal alignment issues that make you susceptible for future pulled muscle conditions.  Once the evaluation has been completed, a customized treatment plan will be put in place for immediate and future relief.

If you currently have a pulled muscle and are looking to speed up recovery, or if you have a history of pulling muscles during activities, we can help!
