General Chiropractic Overview

Chirorpactic care is a specialized area of medicine that focuses on the health of the spine and nervous system.  The specialists use spinal manipulation and other various techniques to help relieve underlying issues that can be the culprits for common symptoms such as back pain, neck pain, headaches, and other chronic issues.  The goal of chiropractic care is to provide pain relief without needing medications or invasive treatments.  Patients are encouraged to promote healthier lifestyles for themselves including eating habits, exercise and general relaxation techniques; coupled together with adjustments and exercises to maximize the opportunity for the body to heal.  In general, patients that practice these techniques tend to have less overall pain and muscle tightness throughout their bodies.

Frequently Asked Chiropractic Questions

Am I a Candidate for Chiropractic Treatment?

The best way to find out if you are a candidate for chiropractic treatment is to get a consultation with a chiropractor for a full health and clinical assessment.  If by chance you are not a candidate for chiropractic services, or if medical treatment is required beyond how a chiropractor can help, you will be referred to the right specialist.

What Expectations Should I Have at My Chiropractic Appointment?

As if you were going to any doctor, you will start with paperwork regarding medical history and general questions as to what brought you in for chiropractic treatment.  Most times you will start with an electronic muscle stimulation to warm your body up for the adjustment.  The entire goal of an adjustment is to manipulate the spine, neck, legs, and other areas of your bodies frame.  There will be some popping (or cracking) durin the adjustement, but tend to feel better mobility and less pain right after.

After my Chiropractic Treatment, Will there be any Special Instructions?

Your chiropractor will discuss healthier lifestyle habits to adapt.  An example, he / she may suggest back support if you work at a desk, or support for your posture.  These recommendations may include wearing better foot support, changing the way you sleep (position), and minimizing stress.

Is it Painful?

This is a VERY common question!  The answer is No!  It is a gentle approach to muscoskeletal alignment helping to bring your hips and spine back in to alignment.  It does not hurt.  Patients usually sigh a relief after an adjustment as it will feel immediately better.  If you have a more serious case the relief will begin after a few sessions.
