Common Causes of Shoulder Pain
There are a wide variety of causes for shoulder pain. Some are very minor and can be just outright annoying, and others can be very painful causing extreme discomfort. Here are just a few of the many various types of shoulder pain issues:
Dislocated Shoulder
This is VERY painful and occurs when the upper arm bone pops out of the shoulder blade socket. The shoulder is very vulnerable to dislocation because it is so mobile. You can often see the bruising of a dislocated shoulder, and of course, the pain. Dislocated shoulders need immediate attention. Once set back in place pain can linger for awhile and its important to begin chiropractic care to help minimize future symptoms.
Frozen Shoulder
Also known as "adhesive capsulitis", in essence it involves stiffness in the shoulder joints. Frozen shoulder typically occurs when the shoulders connective tissue tightens around the joint. The condition will start gradually then worsen over the course of time. During the initial "freezing stage', movement becomes limited, then once in the "freezing stage" the pain will begin to disappear and movement will become more restricted. Finally, in the "thawing" stage, the shoulder will show improvement. Treatment of this pain usually entails shoulder exercises along with gentle adjustments.
Rotator Cuff Injury
As mentioned above, the rotator is a collection of tends and muscles surrounding the shoulder joints, holding the upper arm bone within the socket of the shoulder. These rotator cuff injuries are very common for people who frequently do overhead motions with their arms or have injuries through a physical activity.
Tendinitis
This is the inflammation of the shoulder tendon, a cord that attaches your muscles to the bone, and can cause pains outside of the joint. In some cases you may need surgical correction for tendinitis if it becomes very sesver or ruptured.
