Common Lower Back Pain & Sciatica Questions

Many individuals often wonder what got to this point, where they are experiencing lower back pain symptoms and not being able to do common day-to-day activities.  And while sciatica is common, many individuals aren't aware how much pain and irritation the sciatic nerve can cause when irritated or damaged.  Here are a few of the most common questions we receive at Blakely Chiropractic.

What Causes Low Back Pain?

If you regularly experience lower back pain, it’s usually a sign of an underlying issue such as:

Bulging or ruptured discs
Osteoarthritis
Skeletal irregularities
Muscle and ligament strains

Perhaps you lifted something heavy and started experiencing lower back pain for a 1-2 weeks, this is nothing to worry about.  But if you are experiencing lower back pain on a consistent basis, it is advised to see a chiropractor to check the root of your symptoms so you can beging chiropractic care to minimize the pain and restore the strength of your lower back.

Another condition that cause lower back pain is sciatica.  This is the cause of a compressed disc in your vertebrae.  If you have a herniated (bulging) disc, it can put pressure on your sciatic nerve, causing sharp pains from your lower back down your leg.  Sciatica doesn't really go away without treatment.

What Causes Sciatica?

There are a wide variety of spinal issues that can lead to chronic sciatic pain from a compressed or irritated nerve. Such conditions include:

A ruptured, bulging, or herniated disc
Spinal stenosis (narrowing around the spinal cord)
Injury
Spinal tumors
Spondylolisthesis (a slipping vertebra)
Piriformis syndrome (a muscle irritating your sciatic nerve)
Being overweight or obese
Leading a sedentary lifestyle

Dr. Blakely will provide a complete exam to determine if the source of your lower back pain is actually sciatica or another issue.  Once the diagnosis is finished, he will create a personalized treatment therapy plan to provide natural healing and pain relief to control the sciatic symptoms, helping you to not rely on pain medications

How Do You Treat Lower Back Pain and Sciatica?
