Are you popping pain relievers for your shoulder pain? Stop. Seek help and visit your chiropractor to identify the cause of your pain for corrective chiropractic treatment. Although taking medicines can give you immediate pain relief, it does not address the cause of pain. It should not be a surprise if you will still feel the pain after the medication wears off. Instead of relying on painkillers, visit your chiropractor or book an appointment for your corrective treatment. It would ensure that the cause of the pain was identified and corrected to prevent the pain from coming back. But how does chiropractic work?

Essentially, chiropractic treatment is manipulating the musculoskeletal system and not just addressing the pain on your shoulder. It means that your joints, cartilage, bones, ligaments, tendons, and connective tissues are getting attention and care. Hence, taking medications can relieve pain, but the stress or injury in your musculoskeletal system is still present, which can even cause you pain. With this, chiropractic treatment ensures that your body and musculoskeletal system are cared for by locating the discomfort's source, especially your shoulders' discomfort.

How do chiropractors relieve the pain and adjust your shoulder?

our shoulders are integral joints connected to the nerves on your neck, spine, and the rest of your body. Experiencing pain on your shoulder would probably be caused by misalignment on your spine or an injury in your neck. An injury like an accidental fall can cause the misalignment or other serious injuries that could lead to shoulder dislocations or stress on your shoulder ligaments, spine, and back nerves. With this, your chiropractor would not just treat your shoulder per se, but an examination of your nerves, range, and neck would also be necessary.

In the instance of chronic pain in your shoulder, neck, and back, your chiropractor at Paul Grinstaff clinic will probably advise you to secure bone scanning or an X-ray. The tests would help the chiropractor determine the pain for you to receive the right chiropractic treatment plan. So, an experienced chiropractor will not just crack your back or perform shoulder joint manipulation without first determining the cause of the shoulder pain.

But you may ask, "What are the common shoulder problems that cause pain?" The typical problems that cause shoulder pain are tendonitis, strains, bursitis, shoulder dislocation, sprains, rotator cuff injury, and frozen shoulder.

If you think you strained and sprained your shoulder, don't schedule for surgery. You don't need it. If you have a frozen shoulder, or you have dislocated your shoulder, it would probably not warrant a surgical procedure as well. Even bursitis and a rotator cuff injury that can cause extreme shoulder discomfort would probably need a shoulder brace and several sessions at the chiropractor. Non-invasive treatment or alternative treatments like chiropractic is useful for several shoulder conditions. If you feel pain in your shoulder, don't panic and don't schedule surgery just yet. You may not need surgery at all since a visit to a chiropractor can be what you need. And how can a chiropractor relieve the pain off your shoulder?

Can chiropractic help relieve and treat pain in the shoulders and arm?

Of course! Chiropractic care can help relieve and treat pain, not just on your shoulders but also on your neck and back. If you feel pain on your shoulder, it is most probably caused by irritation in your tendons, ligaments, muscles, or nerves. The common cause of irritation is due to the inflammation of the bursa capsule, or the condition called bursitis. A strained or sprained muscles in your upper arm or triceps and muscles underneath the shoulder blade or subscapularis are the common causes of the pain.

So, what can your chiropractor do? First, a comprehensive exam will be on top of the to-do list. It will help the chiropractor identify and discover the root cause of your arm or shoulder pain. There is no second-guessing on the probable causes since a bone scan or an MRI, even an X-ray will help the chiropractor pinpoint the problem that causes you discomfort. Hence, you don't need to live and endure the discomfort since you can seek chiropractic treatment.

Your chiropractor Paul Grindstaff can also treat frozen shoulders, which is quite painful that it can affect your mobility. It is debilitating that performing trivial daily tasks like combing your hair, brushing your teeth, or putting on your dress or shirt can be painful. On some nights, a frozen shoulder can even ruin your good night's rest. But you don't have to endure the extreme discomfort and pain. Seek immediate chiropractic care to treat your frozen shoulder soon. You don't want to leave your frozen shoulder untreated for so long. You would not probably want it since an untreated frozen shoulder can lead you to the inability to use the affected shoulder, not just for a few days or weeks, but it could take years.

Aside from treating bursitis and frozen shoulder, your chiropractor can also treat rotator cuff injury. It is common to treat surgery as the only treatment for the rotator cuff injury caused by the muscles' inflammation supporting your shoulders. The inflammation in your shoulder causes the stiffness on your shoulders and gives you pain. The pain can even run to your neck area, which would hinder your mobility and make you unable to raise your arms over. So, if you think scratching your back, sleeping on your side, and raising your hands over your head are simple tasks, try having a rotator cuff injury, and you will think otherwise.

What is the best exercise to avoid and relieve shoulder pain?

There are several exercises to loosen the muscle tension on your shoulders. Try these exercises for a few minutes every day to ease the pain. Most activities are for 10 minutes, only with three to five repetitions. When doing the exercises, focus on your shoulder muscles and feel how they relax and release tension. But only stretch up to the degree that you are comfortable and slowly increase the time and repetition. If you won't be able to do 5 repetitions on the first try, it is okay. You can increase the time and repetitions as you progress in the next few days. It is also to note that if you experience further pain or that the pain intensified, discontinue the exercise. If you are unsure of the exercise routines, your chiropractor at Grindstaff chiropractic clinic can advise you on the proper stretches and exercises that fit your condition.

Neck release exercise to gently loosen tension in your shoulders and neck. You can do this by gently lowering your chin towards your chest. Feel the stretch along the back of your neck, hold the position for one minute, and repeat up to five times. Place your hands on your head above your ears and gently tilt your head to your left or right shoulder.
Across-the-chest stretching helps increase your shoulder joint flexibility and the range of motion. To do this, bring your arm across your chest and place your other arm to your elbow to support your arm and increase tension. Hold the position for a minute and repeat for up to 5 times for each arm side.

Chest expansion is the same across-the-chest that increases the flexibility and range of motion. To do this, use a band or towel and hold it behind your back using both hands. Broaden your chest by tightening and shortening the band to move your shoulder blades toward each other. Hold the position for up to 30 seconds and repeat up to 5 times.
Seated twist exercise helps you stretch your neck and shoulders. Keep your hips in place face forward. Twist your upper body to the left side, and bring your right hand to your right thigh. Hold for 30 seconds and repeat it on the other side.

Eagle arms spinal rolls are exercises that you can do by crossing your elbows in front of your body. Bend your elbows, place your forearms and hands together, and reach your left hand to touch your right palm. Hold for 15 seconds and repeat on the other side of your hand.

There are other shoulder exercises that you can do to increase your flexibility and range of motion. Do the exercises slowly, hold it for a few seconds up to a minute, and repeat five times. You may start at lower counts and repetitions and increase once you feel comfortable. You will feel the tension in your shoulders and perhaps a little pain. But it could get better.
